‘Invest in natural resources and harvest the rewards…threaten the natural resources and a threat on your livelihood is inevitable’. This is a message to smallholders that is aimed at triggering a deliberate effort towards sustainable use of resources.
Sustainable NRM practices is the use of natural resources without risk of degradation and compromise to current and future potential to support agricultural production.
NRM practices that will be promoted at Commercial Villages includes but not limited to;
i.    Soil and water conservation practices.
ii.    (ii)    Smallholder based Rotational programmes; Legumes are known to fix Nitrogen (N)’ thus legumes with existing market potential such as hyacinth bean (Dolicos lab lab) common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) will be promoted due to their ability to fix Nitrogen. 
iii.    Use of organic matter; Commercial Villages are encouraged to use farm yard manure from livestock dropping and beddings to reduce overreliance on inorganic fertilizers.
iv.     Safe use and proper disposal of crop pest and disease control chemicals: FCI through partnership agro-inputs suppliers create awareness on adherence to application rates of pesticides.
v.    Intercropping to enhance soil fertility.
vi.    Integrated Pest Management (IPM) technologies.
vii.     Cultivation and use of dairy fodder crops.
viii.    Community irrigation and water management committees; For efficient use of water for irrigation and reclamation of saline lands, FCI will promote establishment of localized water management committees within established commercial villages.
