An appraisal Medicinal and Aromatic Herbs in Nairobi, Kenya
The project was implemented by FCI in partnership with University of Nairobi, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Kenya Industrial Research & Development Institute (KIRDI), Kiriri Women University of Science & Technology, and the Ministry of Agriculture. In the project, commonly processed and traded aromatic and medicinal herbal products were identified along with key dealers. Their composition, consumer buying behavior, pricing and packaging were analyzed so as to establish gaps in their production.

A Survey on Honey and Hive Products; Kitui, Kenya, 2004
In conjunction with ADRA, FCI undertook a study to examine the production, consumption and marketing of honey in Kitui. The study also looked into different ways in which production can be increased. The study revealed that beekeeping is culturally a male activity probably because bees are aggressive for women to cope with, especially during harvesting. Only 50% of the hives were colonized. This is because farmers lack the skills to catch swarms. They also neglected hives. Being a dry season, some bees could have migrated to search for water and nectar.

Value Chain analysis; Kenya, 2008 Palm oil is edible oil derived from the fruits of palm trees. It is the world's second major vegetable oil (after soybean). According to Hamburg-based Oil World trade journal, in 2008, global production of oils and fats stood at 160 million tons. The annual demand, of edible oils in Kenya is estimated at 380,000 metric tons. Out of this, 126,667 tons are produced annually. The rest is imported at a cost of US$140 million a year, making edible oil the country's second most important import after petroleum. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Palm oil in Kenya is grown in western province.

Jojoba oil is expressed from the seeds of jojoba tree, which is a commercially grown shrub, native to the deserts of Arizona, California, and Mexico. The tree, usually 1 to 2 metres tall bears a broad, dense crown with oval leaves and small, greenish-yellow flowers.

Sub-Sector; Kwale, Kenya, 2006
FCI, in collaboration with USAID, the Kenya Horticultural Development Authority and Coastal Development Authority, assessed the cashew nut value chain, consumer purchasing behavior and trends. Findings revealed that cashew nuts are low-priced yet costs of production are high. There are incidences of pests and diseases and farmers lack capital and knowledge of good farming practices.
