In order to build an interactive private sector participation in the commercialization of small holders’ produce, FCI has launched a private sector subsidiary called African Farms & Markets (AFMA). On behalf of smallholders, AFMA, a development trust fully owned by FCI gets business deals and signs various contracts with buyers. These are then passed to individual farmers through the commercial village leadership.
